Xycom Automation Announces the 4600 Series of Heavy-Duty Industrial PCs

Saline, MI - September 20, 2006 - Xycom Automation announces the launch of their next generation of Heavy-Duty Industrial PCs. This new series, the 4600 series, offers better processing power while using nearly half the wattage of many current industrial PCs. The 4600 series utilizes Intel® mobile M processors, used in many commercially available laptop computers. The significantly decreased power usage of the M processor when compared to a commercial desktop type processor is ideal for most factory automation applications requiring a NEMA sealed enclosure. Less power usage makes controlling the operational temperature inside the enclosure much easier to maintain, possibly without incorporating expensive cooling devices.
The 4600 series ships standard with a 1.3 GHz Intel® Celeron M (512 K Cache, 400 MHz bus), 512 MB DRAM, CD-ROM, and Windows® XP. The processor can be upgraded to a 2.0 GHz Pentium M (2 M Cache, 533 MHz bus) while the DRAM can be upgrade up to 2 GB. In addition the CD-ROM can be upgraded to CD-R/W or a DVD-R/W drive. There are 12.1" SVGA (4612), 15" XGA (4615) versions in this family as well as a stand alone PC "node" box (1546). All the display units come with the option of analog resistive touchscreen, keypad with integrated mouse, or a combination of all three.
In addition to the processor this new generation contains several other enhanced features over their very successful 3600 series predecessors. Included in this extensive list are up to two easily removable Serial ATA hard drives that require no cables to be connected or removed, a RAID level 1 option is also available. Other enhancements over the 3600 series include: an additional 10/100/1000 Base-T Ethernet port, four USB 2.0 compliant ports, Type I/II CompactFlash® socket, and an extra RS-232/422/485 selectable serial port. If more interfaces are required the 4 PCI expansion slots can be easily utilized without and cables interfering with the installation.

The 4600 series carries the European CE mark and includes UL and cUL agency approvals. It is also approved for Class I & Class II, Division 2 Hazardous Locations. It can operate in 0°C to 50°C environments without additional cooling, and can be purchased with Windows® XP Professional or Windows® 2000 (multi-language) preloaded and configured to make setup a breeze.
